Robot Structural Analysis MCP servers and AI agent skills

Robot Structural Analysis has a single community MCP server, robot-structural-mcp, that attaches to a running Robot session through the RobotOM COM interface and reads the model, load cases and analysis results. It is read-only unless you opt in to saving, asks for confirmation before running a calculation, and was tested on Robot 2027. Its README is in Vietnamese. Autodesk publishes no Robot MCP server.

How AI connects to Robot Structural Analysis

An MCP server or skill can only do what Robot Structural Analysis lets programs do. Robot Structural Analysis exposes 1 automation interface:

  • Robot API (RobotOM COM) (COM automation): Robot runs as an out-of-process COM server (Robot.Application), so a script or MCP server can attach to an open session without an add-in or administrator rights. The interop library is Interop.RobotOM.dll in Robot's Exe folder, and its constants come from robotom.tlb. RobotOM returns SI values whatever units the interface shows, a frequent source of factor-of-1000 mistakes. Autodesk also ships SDKs, such as the Required Reinforcement SDK for custom design codes. What Autodesk offers

Autodesk has no MCP server for Robot Structural Analysis. Its free Product Help MCP server gives AI assistants read-only access to help content for more than 100 Autodesk products, but the announcement does not name Robot, so check whether Robot's help is included before relying on it.

What you can do with Robot Structural Analysis and AI

  • Summarise an open Robot model, with counts, bounding box and the sections, materials and supports in use.
  • List load cases and combinations with their component cases and factors.
  • Extract bar force envelopes with the position of each maximum, and support reactions for foundation design.
  • Read node displacements and rotations in stated units, using Robot's own selection syntax to pick members.
  • Run the calculation after an explicit confirmation and check that results are available.
  • Browse the RobotOM object tree read-only to find API calls the server does not wrap yet.

Installing

The listings here document setup for Claude Code and Claude Desktop. Install steps, copied from each project's own documentation, are on each listing's page. Most Robot Structural Analysis integrations run on your own computer next to Robot Structural Analysis, so you need Robot Structural Analysis installed and licensed on the same machine unless the listing says otherwise.

Questions

Is there an official Robot Structural Analysis MCP server?

No. Autodesk publishes MCP servers for Revit, Fusion and product help, but none for Robot. The listed Robot server is a community project.

Can the Robot MCP server change my model?

Not by default. Saving and opening other files stay blocked until you set ROBOT_MCP_ALLOW_WRITE=1, and running a calculation needs confirm=true because it overwrites results. Model-building tools are on the author's roadmap.

Why do Robot results come back in odd units through the API?

RobotOM always returns SI values (m, N, N·m, Pa, rad). The community server converts them and labels every result with its units, defaulting to kN, kNm, m, mm for displacements and MPa.

What does the Robot MCP server need to run?

Windows, Robot Structural Analysis Professional open with a model loaded, Python 3.11 or later and uv. It attaches to the running session through GetActiveObject and needs no Robot add-in or administrator rights, because Robot exposes its COM server outside the process.

Can I use the Robot server for foundation design inputs?

Yes. It reads support reactions per load case and combination, and bar force envelopes with the location of each extreme, which you can pass to a foundation or connection design. Large models are returned in pages so the agent's context does not overflow.

AI-generated models, drawings and results must be checked by a qualified engineer before use.
