AVEVA E3D MCP servers and AI agent skills

Three community MCP servers connect agents to a running AVEVA E3D or Unified Engineering session on Windows: one through a CAF add-in for Unified Engineering 4.1, one through a C# bridge on the E3D 2.10 .NET API with piping MTO tools, and one that runs PML in E3D, PDMS or AVEVA Marine sessions. Each needs a licensed install and some building. AVEVA offers an in-product AI assistant but no MCP server for E3D.

  • No official AVEVA server yet.
  • 3 MCP servers listed.

How AI connects to AVEVA E3D

An MCP server or skill can only do what AVEVA E3D lets programs do. AVEVA E3D exposes 3 automation interfaces:

  • PML (Programmable Macro Language) and PML.NET (Other): PML is the macro and forms language shared by E3D and PDMS, and it is the native way to customise both. PML.NET lets PML create and call .NET objects through proxy objects, so old macros can use newer C# code. The PmlTrigger.Yuzuha server works at this level: it builds typed PML calls and runs authorised commands on the AVEVA main thread, so read any PML the agent proposes before you authorise it. Documentation
  • .NET API (C# add-ins) (.NET): AVEVA's .NET APIs reach the user interface, the database and geometry, and can be used next to PML customisation. Both C# servers here build on them: one as a CAF add-in that receives requests over a named pipe inside Unified Engineering, the other as a standalone E3D process that logs into a project and serves a local REST API. Expect to compile against your own E3D installation, because the AVEVA assemblies aren't redistributable. Documentation
  • Batch mode (Command line): E3D can also run without its graphical interface for batch jobs, which suits report and export runs. None of the listed servers uses batch mode yet; they all attach to or start an interactive session. Documentation

What AVEVA offers

E3D Design is now sold as part of AVEVA Unified Engineering, which includes an Industrial AI Assistant (preview) built on Azure-hosted OpenAI models, Generative Design AI for creating piping, structural and equipment layout options, and Predictive Design AI. AVEVA announced MCP integrations at AVEVA World 2026 for its data and operations systems, but has released no MCP server for E3D or Unified Engineering as of this check.

What you can do with AVEVA E3D and AI

  • Walk the model hierarchy from SITE and ZONE down to a pipe or equipment item, and read its position, orientation and other attributes.
  • Produce a piping material take-off or pipe component count, audit branch loops and check components against their spec.
  • Create equipment primitives, extrusions or a closed polyhedron, or bring a Revit element's mesh into a zone as new equipment.
  • Run a reviewed PML command or macro in a chosen session and log the call with before and after screenshots.
  • Keep changes unsaved until you review them, then save with a comment or discard them.

Installing

The listings here document setup for Hermes and VS Code. Install steps, copied from each project's own documentation, are on each listing's page. Most AVEVA E3D integrations run on your own computer next to AVEVA E3D, so you need AVEVA E3D installed and licensed on the same machine unless the listing says otherwise.

Questions

Is there an official AVEVA E3D MCP server?

No. AVEVA's AI in Unified Engineering is its own Industrial AI Assistant and generative design tools. The three E3D servers here are community projects that build on PML and the .NET API.

Can Claude edit an E3D model?

Yes, through these servers on the same Windows machine as a licensed E3D session. They can set attributes and create elements; the Unified Engineering server never saves on its own, and the E3D 2.10 server only saves when you call its SaveWork tool. Work in a controlled MDB.

Which E3D versions are covered?

AVEVA Unified Engineering 4.1 (audunopdal), E3D 2.10 (nitin-121), and E3D 2.1, 3.1.0 and 3.1.6 plus PDMS and AVEVA Marine profiles (PmlTrigger.Yuzuha, live-tested on E3D 2.1 only).

Do these servers work with PDMS?

Only PmlTrigger.Yuzuha lists PDMS, through its .NET 3.5 profile for PDMS and AVEVA Marine. The other two need E3D's .NET API.

AI-generated models, drawings and results must be checked by a qualified engineer before use.
