AutoCAD MCP servers compared
AutoCAD has more MCP servers than almost any other engineering tool, and they work in very different ways. Some drive a running copy of AutoCAD through COM, AutoLISP or the .NET API; some edit DXF files with no AutoCAD installed; one reads DWG files without AutoCAD; and Autodesk's own server works only inside Autodesk Assistant. This page sets out what each one documents, so you can match a server to the AutoCAD edition, operating system and kind of work you have.

Which one fits your situation
You use AutoCAD LT
puran-water's server is the one that documents AutoCAD LT support, through AutoLISP in LT 2024 or later on Windows. LT for Mac has no AutoLISP, so it doesn't apply there. Most COM-based servers target full AutoCAD.
There's no AutoCAD licence on the machine where the AI runs
For DXF output, the headless ezdxf modes in the puran-water and U-C4N servers work without AutoCAD. For reading existing DWG files, the LibreDWG-based DWG MCP Server reads them on any operating system but doesn't save. Writing DWG without AutoCAD needs the ODA File Converter with U-C4N's server.
You want to review or extract data from existing drawings, not change them
The LibreDWG reader never saves, and Autodesk's in-app server is built around queries, counts and template comparisons. Among the live servers, bimwright's add-in has a read-only mode.
You need edits you can check before they happen
best-cad-mcp dry-runs every edit plan and compares the drawing before and after. bimwright's add-in applies each text change as a single undo step. Whatever you use, work on a copy: several servers can run arbitrary LISP, C# or commands.
You use AutoCAD Architecture, ZWCAD, GstarCAD or BricsCAD
For AutoCAD Architecture objects, Nodal.AcadMcp has dedicated tools but needs AutoCAD 2027. multiCAD-mcp and CAD-MCP Server also connect to ZWCAD and GstarCAD, and multiCAD-mcp to BricsCAD; U-C4N lists those connections as untested.
Notes on each server
Autodesk AutoCAD and Civil 3D MCP Server
Autodesk's own server ships with AutoCAD and Civil 3D on Windows, but Autodesk documents only its own Assistant as a client, with no setup for Claude, Cursor or other external clients. In plain AutoCAD it reads, filters, counts and selects objects and compares a drawing against a template; most editing and style tools are in the Civil 3D configuration. Choose it if you work inside Autodesk Assistant and mainly need queries and standards checks rather than drafting.
AutoCAD MCP Server
The server documented for AutoCAD LT: it reaches LT 2024 or later on Windows through an AutoLISP dispatcher that you load with APPLOAD. The same eight grouped tools also run headlessly on DXF through ezdxf. It can run any AutoLISP expression, works without stealing window focus and returns screenshots. Its P&ID symbol tools need a separately licensed symbol library.
AutoCAD MCP Pro
The broadest tool set here, with over 240 tools aimed at mechanical sheets, P&IDs, floor plans and takeoffs, and checks that measure required features on the drawn geometry and the saved file. Live control needs full AutoCAD on Windows (tested against AutoCAD 2026); AutoCAD LT isn't mentioned. Headless mode edits DXF, and writing DWG headlessly needs the ODA File Converter. Set ALLOWED_PATHS, because it is unscoped by default.
CAD-MCP Server
A straightforward COM server with 35 tools for drawing, editing by handle, querying and saving, which also works with GstarCAD and ZWCAD. It returns a screenshot of the CAD window so the agent can check its work and passes any command line through a send_command tool. The README doesn't list tested AutoCAD versions.
multiCAD-mcp
Covers AutoCAD 2018 and later plus ZWCAD, GstarCAD and BricsCAD over COM, packing 56 commands into seven batched tools to reduce round trips. It exports entity data to JSON or Excel and saves to DWG, DXF or PDF. At version 0.2.0 it installs from a clone rather than a package.
dwg-mcp
A .NET add-in for AutoCAD 2022 to 2027 focused on drawing text: it groups fragments into sentences, translates or rewrites them in place and applies the change as one undo step. You install a plug-in bundle per AutoCAD year. A C# escape hatch can be switched off, and a read-only mode is available.
Nodal.AcadMcp
An alpha in-process add-in for AutoCAD 2027 only, with 159 tools, 79 of them for AutoCAD Architecture objects such as walls, doors, spaces and roofs. It also builds 3D solids. Three tools run arbitrary C#, LISP or commands, and the author asks you to read the security notes first; some actions can't be undone.
best-cad-mcp
A beta server built around supervised editing: it scans the drawing into handles, validates and dry-runs each edit plan, executes only on request, then rescans and compares the result. It keeps a semantic view of the drawing in a local SQLite workspace. The author recommends AutoCAD 2020 or newer and aims it at supervised rather than unattended work.
DWG MCP Server
The only server here that reads DWG files with no AutoCAD at all, through LibreDWG, on Windows, macOS or Linux. It indexes a drawing, answers queries by handle, layer, block or property and renders views to PNG or SVG. It never saves changes, so it suits reviewing and extracting data, not drafting. It is GPL-3.0 licensed.
What we checked
We read each project's README and documentation on 4–5 November 2026 and recorded what it says about supported AutoCAD versions, operating systems, connection method, licence and limitations. Star counts and last-update dates come from the GitHub API and refresh nightly.
We haven't installed or run these servers, so nothing here measures reliability, speed or drawing quality, and the order of the table isn't a ranking. Check a server on a copy of a real drawing before you rely on it, and treat anything it draws as a draft for an engineer to check.
AI-generated models, drawings and results must be checked by a qualified engineer before use.
