What it can do

  • Reads object schemas, then queries objects with filters or returns counts, sums and other statistics grouped by layer or property.
  • Zooms to, selects and unselects objects in the drawing window, switching between model and paper space as needed.
  • Compares the open drawing with a template drawing and reports the differences, for standards checks.
  • Since September 2026, explores xrefs, data references and block references, manages layers and reads or sets system variables.
  • In Civil 3D, lists and modifies styles and display components and updates surface slope analysis data.

Limitations

  • Works only through Autodesk Assistant inside AutoCAD or Civil 3D; Autodesk documents no way to connect Claude, Cursor or another external MCP client.
  • Plain AutoCAD gets the read and analysis tools; object modification and style tools are in the Civil 3D configuration.
  • Windows only. Navisworks xrefs, reference templates and editing inside BEDIT or REFEDIT are not supported yet.

Install

Open AutoCAD or Civil 3D on Windows with Autodesk Assistant open; the server runs inside Assistant. Run MCPCONFIG to see which tools are enabled in your session.
