How AI connects to MIDAS Civil / Gen

An MCP server or skill can only do what MIDAS Civil / Gen lets programs do. MIDAS Civil / Gen exposes 2 automation interfaces:

  • MIDAS NX API and midas-civil Python library (Python): Civil NX and Gen NX expose an API that MIDAS documents as a JSON manual on its support site. MIDAS IT publishes MIT-licensed Python wrappers on GitHub and PyPI (midas-civil for Civil NX, plus a Gen NX counterpart) for creating nodes, elements, materials, sections and boundary conditions, running analysis and pulling forces, displacements, reactions and stresses into pandas. An unofficial SDK, midas-nx, also covers both products. Documentation
  • MIDAS command and neutral files (MCT, MGT) (Input files): The GTS NX manual describes exporting models to MIDAS Civil as *.mct files and to Gen as *.mgt files. A file-based integration could target these formats, but the listed server talks to the running program instead. Documentation

What MIDAS IT offers

MIDAS IT has not announced an MCP server or built-in AI assistant for Civil NX or Gen NX that we could confirm. In September 2026 it ran a Hong Kong training seminar on combining the Civil NX and Gen NX APIs with AI tools to build plug-ins, which signals interest but is not a product.

What you can do with MIDAS Civil / Gen and AI

  • Build a simple-span or continuous girder bridge in Civil NX from spans, girder type, spacing and materials given in plain language.
  • Generate AASHTO HL-93 vehicle loading and LRFD load combinations, then run linear static analysis.
  • Check girder deflections against AASHTO 2.5.2.6.2 and report reactions and member forces.
  • Run a parametric sweep, such as girder spacing from 2.0 to 3.0 m, and compare the maximum live-load moment for each model.
  • Roll back a failed modelling step using the server's transaction support instead of reopening the model by hand.

Questions

Is there an official MIDAS Civil MCP server?

No. MIDAS IT publishes Python libraries for the Civil NX and Gen NX API but no MCP server. The listed server, lwangmy-12/midas-mcp, is a community project.

Can Claude build a bridge model in MIDAS Civil NX?

With midas-mcp running beside Civil NX 2023 or later on Windows, Claude Code can create girder bridge geometry, sections, materials, boundary conditions and HL-93 loading, then run the analysis. Load rating and AASHTO design checks are still planned.

Does the MIDAS Civil server work with MIDAS Gen NX?

It is written for Civil NX and bridge workflows. Gen NX shares the NX API, but the server does not describe Gen support.

Is there an official MIDAS Python API I can script myself?

Yes. MIDAS IT publishes midas-civil on PyPI and GitHub under the MIT licence, with documentation for creating model data, running analysis and extracting results from Civil NX. It needs Civil NX running and connected, and a Gen NX library is also published.

AI-generated models, drawings and results must be checked by a qualified engineer before use.
