What it can do

  • Covers sketching, boss and cut features (extrude, revolve, sweep, loft, boundary), fillets, shells, patterns and mirrors.
  • Builds assemblies from saved parts with coincident, concentric, distance and gear mates, and checks interference.
  • Lists faces and edges with coordinates, reads mass properties and returns labelled screenshots so the agent can inspect what it built.
  • Handles configurations and equations, and imports or exports STEP, IGES, Parasolid, ACIS and STL.
  • Works in millimetres and degrees and converts to the API's metres and radians internally.

Limitations

  • Windows only, because SOLIDWORKS runs only on Windows.
  • The author notes that agents struggle to interpret complex or degraded drawings.
