FreeCAD Robust MCP Serverby Sean P. Kane
A paired MCP server and FreeCAD workbench with about 80 tools, macros, undo and headless or Docker modes.
FreeCAD has a wide choice of community MCP servers, including neka-nat's freecad-mcp, the most starred on GitHub. Most pair a FreeCAD addon or workbench, which opens a local RPC or socket listener, with an external server your AI client starts; a few can also run FreeCAD headless through freecadcmd. They work on Windows, macOS and Linux with no licence cost. Check each project's FreeCAD version: most target 1.0 or 1.1, and some CAM tools need a development build.

A FreeCAD bridge for design, debugging, mesh work and CAM toolpaths, able to talk to several FreeCAD windows.
A FreeCAD addon plus uvx server that edits documents, runs Python, imports library parts and runs CalculiX FEM.
An in-app chat workbench for FreeCAD with 50 tools and skills, which can also serve those tools over MCP.
Three local MCP servers for a FreeCAD to Elmer FEM to ParaView chain, with workspace limits and physics checks on every result.
A FreeCAD workbench and control panel that lets an agent create, update and run .FCMacro files and set views.
An npm installer that adds an AI Copilot workbench and MCP bridge to FreeCAD for PartDesign, Part and views.
A minimal FreeCAD workbench and bridge with two tools: read the scene and run a Python script.
Listings are sorted by origin, then by recent activity. GitHub data is refreshed nightly. Nothing here is ranked.
An MCP server or skill can only do what FreeCAD lets programs do. FreeCAD exposes 2 automation interfaces:
FreeCAD is developed by an open-source community rather than a software vendor, and the project has announced no AI assistant or MCP server of its own. Its blog, checked on 4 November 2026, covered the FreeCAD 26.3 release candidates and grant-funded work, with no AI integration. All FreeCAD MCP servers and AI workbenches listed here are independent community projects distributed as addons.

The listings here document setup for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex and Cursor. Install steps, copied from each project's own documentation, are on each listing's page. Most FreeCAD integrations run on your own computer next to FreeCAD, so you need FreeCAD installed and licensed on the same machine unless the listing says otherwise.
No. FreeCAD is community-developed and the project hasn't published one. The servers here are independent addons; neka-nat's freecad-mcp is the most widely starred on GitHub.
Most servers have two parts. You copy an addon into FreeCAD's Mod folder and start its RPC or socket server from a workbench toolbar; then Claude Desktop or Claude Code launches the MCP server, often with uvx, which talks to that listener on localhost.
Most current servers document FreeCAD 1.0 and 1.1, and one requires 1.0.2 or later with 1.1.4 recommended for security fixes. An older macro-based plugin supports 0.21. CAM toolpath tools in one server need a FreeCAD weekly build, because the Path API changed after 1.1.
Treat it with care. Several servers run arbitrary Python with your user's permissions. Keep the listener on localhost, set the auth token or bearer token some servers offer before allowing remote access, and work on copies of important files.
Yes. FreeCAD's freecadcmd runs scripts headlessly, and some servers use it for exports and heavy geometry. If you want an agent to script models with no CAD program at all, look at the CadQuery, build123d and OpenSCAD pages.
AI-generated models, drawings and results must be checked by a qualified engineer before use.
