What it can do
- Exposes 242 tools in toolsets (query, create, view, schedule, lint, sheets and more) when all are switched on, or a 55-tool core when run bare, as of v1.2.2.
- Runs a .NET 8 server that reaches a small add-in for each Revit year over local TCP (2022–2024) or a named pipe (2025 and later), so nothing leaves the machine.
- A --read-only flag limits the agent to 98 read tools; --disable-send-code hides arbitrary C# execution.
- Rolls back transactions that raise Revit warnings by default and keeps a local record of failures you can review.
- Can save repeated C# patterns as your own reusable tools (ToolBaker).
Limitations
- Windows only; the installer is a PowerShell script.
- Family Editor authoring is out of scope for now, according to the README.
- The author notes that runtime depth varies by Revit year, so recheck custom C# on the years you use.

$tag = (Invoke-RestMethod https://api.github.com/repos/bimwright/rvt-mcp/releases/latest).tag_name
$dir = "$env:TEMP\RvtMcp.Setup-$tag-win-x64"
Invoke-WebRequest "https://github.com/bimwright/rvt-mcp/releases/download/$tag/RvtMcp.Setup-$tag-win-x64.zip" -OutFile "$dir.zip"
Expand-Archive "$dir.zip" -DestinationPath $dir -Force
powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File "$dir\install.ps1" -WhatIf -Client claude-desktop
# Review the preview before applying:
powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File "$dir\install.ps1" -Client claude-desktopRun the same installer with -Client claude instead of -Client claude-desktop. Then open a model, start MCP from Add-Ins > RvtMcp in Revit and ask the agent to call revit_get_current_view_info.MCP servers and skills run code on your computer. Review the source before installing.
