Dymola / Modelica MCP servers and AI agent skills

Two community projects reach Dymola. dymola-mcp is a Windows server written against Dymola 2023x that loads, translates and simulates Modelica models and reads or plots results. The modelica-skills plugin adds Modelica modelling skills and a second, Dymola-specific server, but its author says that adapter hasn't yet been run against a real Dymola; its main engine is OpenModelica. Dassault Systèmes publishes no MCP server for Dymola, and both projects need your own licensed copy.

  • No official Dassault Systemes server yet.
  • 2 MCP servers listed.

How AI connects to Dymola / Modelica

An MCP server or skill can only do what Dymola / Modelica lets programs do. Dymola / Modelica exposes 2 automation interfaces:

  • Dymola Python interface (Python): Dymola ships a Python interface that loads packages, translates and simulates models and reads results, and Dassault lists Python scripting alongside FMI support and a Simulink interface as ways to connect Dymola to other tools. The Dymola server in the modelica-skills plugin is built on it, configured with the Dymola path and the package.mo files to load. Documentation
  • DymolaScript commands (Other): Dymola also accepts its own script commands. dymola-mcp passes any DymolaScript command through its execute_command tool, next to named tools for loading, translating and simulating models, setting parameters, reading variable trajectories from .mat result files and closing Dymola to free the licence seat.

What Dassault Systemes offers

The Dymola product page describes FMI support, Python scripting and Simulink integration, but no AI assistant, agent or MCP server, as of this check. The only AI integrations found are the two community projects listed here, one of which is mainly an OpenModelica toolchain with a Dymola adapter still waiting for a test against real Dymola.

What you can do with Dymola / Modelica and AI

  • Load a Modelica package, translate a model and simulate it, then list result variables with a wildcard and plot the ones you need.
  • Change a parameter, re-run the simulation and compare variable trajectories read from the .mat result file.
  • Close Dymola from the agent to release the licence when the work is done.
  • Plan a new Modelica model through an interview about physics, operating ranges and sources, then build it task by task with verification gates.
  • Pass a DymolaScript command that has no dedicated tool, after reviewing it, through execute_command.

Installing

The listings here document setup for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cline, Continue.dev, Google Antigravity and Hermes Agent. Install steps, copied from each project's own documentation, are on each listing's page. Most Dymola / Modelica integrations run on your own computer next to Dymola / Modelica, so you need Dymola / Modelica installed and licensed on the same machine unless the listing says otherwise.

Questions

Is there a Dymola MCP server?

A community one, dymola-mcp, with 12 tools for loading, translating, simulating and reading results. It was written for Dymola 2023x on Windows. Dassault Systèmes doesn't publish an official server.

Can Claude simulate a Modelica model in Dymola?

Yes, if Dymola is installed and licensed on the same machine. dymola-mcp lists Claude Desktop and Claude Code among its clients and reads the install path from DYMOLA_INSTALL_DIR.

Do these work with OpenModelica instead?

dymola-mcp is Dymola only. The modelica-skills plugin was tested with OpenModelica, run locally or in a Docker container, and treats Dymola as an optional backend.

Which Dymola versions are supported?

dymola-mcp defaults to C:\Program Files\Dymola 2023x and was written for that release; set DYMOLA_INSTALL_DIR for another install. The modelica-skills Dymola server finds Dymola through DYMOLA_PATH and loads the package.mo files listed in DYMOLA_PACKAGES, but no tested release is given.

AI-generated models, drawings and results must be checked by a qualified engineer before use.
