What it can do
- Splits 109 tools across schematic, PCB, library, project and export servers, which run together or separately.
- Parses and writes KiCad files directly and calls kicad-cli for ERC, DRC, exports and schematic-to-board updates; pcbnew is used only for zone fills and autorouting.
- Refuses an edit that can't be made cleanly and leaves the file untouched.
- The Claude Code plugin adds six design skills.
Limitations
- In maintenance mode since October 2026; only security and KiCad compatibility fixes.
- In the author's own small test, plain Claude Code with kicad-cli got 18 of 18 single edits right, against 3 of 18 with the plugin; the author now suggests that approach instead.
- autoroute_pcb downloads Freerouting 2.5.0 on first use and needs Java 25 or newer.
