What it can do

  • Starts headless Tcl or GUI Vivado sessions, or reconnects to a Vivado instance that already runs its Tcl webserver, and keeps several sessions apart.
  • Sends Tcl to Vivado through a single vivado_execute tool, and parses logs for errors, warnings and run progress.
  • On Linux, can start Vivado on another machine over SSH or on an LSF cluster node, and serve GUI sessions through a bundled VNC display.
  • Pairs with AMD's separate amd-doc-search MCP server and the Ross skills repository for documentation search and guided workflows.

Limitations

  • Distributed as a binary from AMD's download page, which asks you to sign in with an AMD account; AMD's setup guide refers to it as an EA release page.
  • Display, SSH and LSF tools are Linux only.
  • AMD recommends either the standalone binary or the VS Code extension, not both, to avoid running two copies of the server.
