What it can do
- Indexes a .chm ETABS documentation file you provide into a local ChromaDB vector store.
- Exposes one search_etabs_docs tool that returns relevant help passages with their source files.
- Generates embeddings locally, so there are no per-query API costs.
Limitations
- Ships no documentation; you need a legitimately obtained ETABS .chm file.
- Needs Node.js, Python, Docker (for ChromaDB) and a CHM extraction tool such as 7-Zip.
- Answers documentation questions only; it cannot read or change an ETABS model.
Install
Clone the repository, run npm install, set up the Python indexer in index_chm_py with its requirements, start ChromaDB in Docker, index your ETABS .chm file once, then register the Node.js server with Claude Desktop.Source: github.com/PriyankGodhat/etabs-mcp-server-local-embeddings#setup-instructions
