What it can do

  • The MCPConnect command in Rhino starts the MCP server; external clients then model, inspect and edit the open document and its Grasshopper canvases.
  • Builds, reviews and converts Grasshopper definitions, including GH1 to GH2 upgrades, and runs Python and C# scripts and Rhino commands.
  • Can start, close and restart Rhino, load plugins, open and save files, and run several Rhino copies side by side.
  • Ships an in-Rhino chat panel (the AI command) for Claude and Codex, and a Claude Code plugin with scene and snapshot commands and a modelling agent.

Limitations

  • Labelled a Rhino BETA feature; McNeel describes the integration as just beginning.
  • Tools such as run_python, run_csharp and run_command execute arbitrary code in Rhino and can reach any file your account can, per McNeel's privacy note.
  • Results, including viewport screenshots, are sent to your AI client's provider.

Install

Download connector.mcpb from the RhinoAI releases, then in Claude Desktop go to Settings > Extensions > Advanced settings, click Install Extension and select it. Install the Rhino-MCP-Platform package in Rhino 8 through the Package Manager, or ask the connector to install it.
