What it can do

  • Writes a JSON request, has Altium (X2.EXE) run a merged DelphiScript bridge file, and reads the JSON response back.
  • Reads project parameters, components, nets, layer stackups, rules and ERC violations, and runs output jobs and Altium's DRC.
  • Creates schematic symbols (including multi-part) and PCB footprints from datasheets, in bulk from spec files, and builds or edits schematic sheets.
  • Places components in one undo step, checks clearances and orientation, adds vias, pours and 45-degree tracks, and cleans up silkscreen designators.
  • Runs your own DelphiScript in a sandbox and can install the companion altium-script skill.

Limitations

  • Windows only, with a running, licensed Altium Designer.
  • Until April 2026 the README warned that having the AI place components "fails hard"; the current version adds batch placement and a check_placement tool, but test placement on a copy.
  • The author documents Altium script-engine leaks (window handles and memory) that can crash Altium with unsaved work; the server refuses calls near those limits and asks for a restart.
  • Some tools flash Altium dialogs on screen and close Altium-owned dialogs while they wait.

Install

Make sure Python 3.10 to 3.14 is available, download altium-mcp.dxt from the releases page, then in Claude Desktop on Windows choose File > Settings > Extensions > Advanced > Install Extension and select the .dxt file.
