Trane TRACE AI integrations

No MCP server or agent skill for Trane TRACE is listed yet (checked 4 Nov 2026). TRACE 3D Plus has no MCP server or agent skill, and Trane publishes no scripting API for it. Because its calculations run on the EnergyPlus engine, the realistic agent route today is to model the building in EnergyPlus or OpenStudio, which do have servers, and keep TRACE for the final design. TRACE 3D Plus is sold as an annual SaaS subscription, at version 8.0 when checked.

How AI connects to Trane TRACE

An MCP server or skill can only do what Trane TRACE lets programs do. Trane TRACE exposes 2 automation interfaces:

  • Libraries and TRL import and export (Input files): Trane's page lists no API. The documented file exchange is for libraries: local library members such as schedules, themes, templates and airflows export and import as a single TRACE TRL file, and Trane distributes ASHRAE 90.1 and 62.1 libraries to import. Floor plans come in through PDF import. An integration could generate or check TRL library content, but not drive a model. Documentation
  • EnergyPlus engine (Other): Trane says TRACE 3D Plus calculations are powered by EnergyPlus. That makes EnergyPlus the nearest scriptable substitute: an agent can test a system idea in EnergyPlus or OpenStudio and you carry the decision back into TRACE by hand. Documentation

What Trane offers

The TRACE 3D Plus page covers version 8.0, a trial download, ASHRAE Standard 140 results and SaaS support, with no AI assistant or MCP server for the software. Trane's site lists AI solutions under smart buildings and controls, which concern building operation rather than TRACE design work.

What an integration for Trane TRACE could do

  • Build a team library of schedules and templates as a TRL file and check it for naming and value errors before import.
  • Reproduce a TRACE system comparison in EnergyPlus or OpenStudio to test an alternative quickly.
  • Compare peak loads you copy from a TRACE report with an EnergyPlus run of the same building.

Questions

Is there a TRACE 3D Plus MCP server?

No. As of 4 November 2026 Trane hasn't released one and no community project targets TRACE.

Can Claude control TRACE 3D Plus?

No. Trane documents no automation interface for TRACE 3D Plus. Since TRACE runs EnergyPlus, you can have Claude work on an equivalent EnergyPlus or OpenStudio model through their servers.

Is TRACE 700 still supported?

Trane offers extended renewal subscriptions for the TRACE 700 family and lists end-of-service options on its support lifecycle page; check there before planning new work in TRACE 700.

AI-generated models, drawings and results must be checked by a qualified engineer before use.
