What it can do

  • Covers layers, feature editing with commit and rollback, styling, labelling, print layouts and atlas export, PostgreSQL connections and SQL across layers.
  • Runs Processing algorithms in batches or as background jobs with no time limit, and builds .model3 Processing models from a structured description.
  • Takes project checkpoints you can roll back to, and exports a session's changes as a PyQGIS script you can replay.
  • Marks each tool as read-only, destructive or idempotent so your client can ask before risky calls; a compound mode cuts the 125 tools to 27 grouped ones.
  • Can address several open QGIS windows from one server registration.

Limitations

  • The plugin socket has no authentication unless you set a shared token, and execute_code runs any PyQGIS code.
  • The plugin and server versions must match; a newer server can send commands an older plugin rejects.
  • The server is installed from a GitHub archive with uvx, not from PyPI.

Install

In QGIS: Plugins > Manage and Install Plugins > search QGIS MCP > Install. Restart QGIS and click Start Server in the QGIS MCP dock widget.
