What it can do

  • Creates, opens, converts, builds and exports Studio 5000 projects and changes the controller type.
  • Generates a compiling L5X project from a points list by splicing data types, tags and programs into a template exported from the SDK, then validates and diffs L5X files.
  • Reads and writes tags offline or online, sets comm paths, goes online, downloads, uploads and changes controller mode, with each of these gated behind confirm=true.
  • Simulates or publishes telemetry over MQTT, OPC UA and EtherNet/IP and runs FAT/SAT assertion suites.

Limitations

  • Needs Rockwell's LdSdkService running and two DOTNET_ROOT variables set; the author calls this the most common setup problem.
  • Created in October 2026 by an unaffiliated author, with no published release.

Install

Install the LDSDK Python wheel from your SDK installation and the requirements, then register run-mcp.cmd (which sets the environment variables and starts the server) as a stdio server in your MCP client.
