SCALE AI integrations

No MCP server or agent skill for SCALE is listed yet (checked 4 Nov 2026). No MCP server or agent skill exists for ORNL's SCALE code system as of November 2026. SCALE is driven by text input in several styles, one per sequence family, which an agent could write and check, but distribution is tightly controlled: since February 2023 every SCALE version falls under 10 CFR 810 and is licensed through RSICC.

How AI connects to SCALE

An MCP server or skill can only do what SCALE lets programs do. SCALE exposes 2 automation interfaces:

  • Sequence input files (CSAS, TRITON, MAVRIC, Polaris, ORIGEN) (Input files): The SCALE 6.3 manual says there is no standard SCALE input. TRITON, CSAS and MAVRIC share an older style, Polaris follows the brevity of CASMO for lattice physics, and ORIGEN and Sampler use the SON syntax introduced in SCALE 6.2. Any agent integration would need per-sequence templates and checks rather than one parser, which makes SCALE a candidate for a skill that encodes those differences. Documentation
  • Fulcrum user interface (Other): Fulcrum is SCALE's graphical user interface. Its main addition in SCALE 6.3 is 3D geometry visualisation with results overlay, and CSAS can now write grid definitions to .3dmap files for viewing in Fulcrum. That makes it the natural place to inspect geometry an agent has drafted before you spend a long run on it. Documentation

What ORNL offers

Neither the SCALE 6.3 manual nor RSICC's SCALE announcements mention an AI assistant or MCP server as of 4 November 2026. RSICC says the DOE asserted control over SCALE in February 2023, limiting distribution to US persons and citizens of 10 CFR 810 Appendix A countries, with case-by-case restricted or cloud access for others.

What an integration for SCALE could do

  • Draft a CSAS criticality input for a fuel storage configuration and list every assumption it makes about materials and geometry for you to confirm.
  • Convert a lattice description into Polaris input and check that it follows Polaris syntax rather than the older TRITON style.
  • Summarise an ORIGEN depletion output into decay heat and nuclide inventory tables at the times you ask for.
  • Compare two SCALE outputs and report the changes in k-effective and the main sensitivity coefficients.

Know of one, or building one?

If an MCP server or agent skill for SCALE exists, tell us and we'll check it and list it. You can also ask for one, which helps builders see demand.

Questions

Is there a SCALE MCP server?

No. None was found on 4 November 2026. SCALE's export controls also mean any integration has to run where an eligible, licensed user already has the code.

Who can get SCALE?

RSICC distributes it. Since February 2023 all versions are controlled under 10 CFR 810, which limits distribution to US persons and citizens of Appendix A countries; others may get restricted or cloud access case by case. Maintenance releases are free to existing licensees from the SCALE team.

AI-generated models, drawings and results must be checked by a qualified engineer before use.
